EVIL ED LIMITED EDITION OR, GET LOST IN BRAINLAND, YOU CHUNK OF MEAT!

Evil Ed: Limited EDition released by Arrow Video on May 30th, follows a feature film editor, Edward. When he is reassigned to edit the "Loose Limbs" horror film series, he finds himself a little out of his comfort zone...and his mind!

Edward is VERY mild-mannered and proper; a nice man with a nice family and a good job editing dramatic and artsy films. When he is reassigned to the Splatter and Gore Department at European Distributors, he is given the task to edit the horribly violent Loose Limbs series. His boss, Sam Campbell, moves him to his house so that Edward can edit peacefully and swiftly. At first, everything is OK; he's disgusted with the films, but he has a job to do. After a while, he begins to hallucinate, then ultimately loses his mind and tries to kill his wife and daughter, turning his world into a real life horror film.

I first saw Evil Ed many years ago, but I really didn't get what it was about. Now, after watching this new release a few times, I realize that Evil Ed is a satire on the effects hyper-violent horror films of the 1980's may have had on the average non-horror watcher, and it was also a not-so-subtle homage to such blood and guts classics like Evil Dead, Dead Alive, Bad Taste, and others. I mean, come on, the boss's name is Sam (Raimi) Campbell (Bruce), and the camera work is very erratic like that of Peter Jackson's early works. There are also posters all around Sam Campbell's office and house depicting some great horror films of the day, like Evil Dead 2, Pet Sematary, Prince of Darkness, The Kindred, and The Fly

Arrow did a fantastic job on Evil Ed. While a bit grainy, the picture looks awesome and the sound is crisp. There is a crazy amount of extras as well, including deleted scenes and in-depth making of documentaries.

In short, if you're looking for a funny, bloody, over the top splatter-fest that doesn't take itself seriously, pick up Evil Ed: Limited EDition today.

From Arrow video:
WHEN HIS MIND BLOWS, ANYTHING GOES! A blood-soaked love letter to the splatter films of the '80s, video rental favourite Evil Ed returns in a brand-new Special EDition featuring an extended cut of the feature and hours of stomach-churning bonus features! Mild-mannered film technician Edward enjoys his job. That is, until he finds himself transferred from his regular post to the "Splatter and Gore department", where he's forced to edit hours upon hours of grisly video nasty footage. Traumatized by the onscreen violence, Ed starts to lose his grip on reality - with ghastly (and bloody) consequences... Owing a debt to films such as The Evil Dead, Re-animator and the early splatter classics of Peter Jackson, Evil Ed is a veritable smorgasbord of flying limbs, exploding heads, busty babes and creepy creatures!
